Research Into Genre

Exorcist of Emily Rose

Conventions of the genre:
This is the front cover of the film Exorcist of Emily Rose which was first screened in 25th of November 2005. As you can see from this front cover this shows to be very bleak which emphasises to the audience that this genre is a horror. The title really stands out to the audience as this shows to be a red or black shade, this shows to the audience that this is blood. There shows to be a character in the front cover which does not show her face as this gives the audience an unanswered mystery as they do not know what the main characters will look like, as this stands out and looks very authentic. The tree in the background explains that this could be set in the middle of nowhere, also this shows that she is lonely as there is only one tree and her.

In a horror film, there are different props that are used to show that this film is going to be bloody, deadly etc. Props such as guns, Knifes, chainsaws. etc.

This is the trailer of 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' and the main character from this film is Robert Englund, and this character has been in all off the Freddy Kruger films which makes him a really famous actor for the genre horror. The director of this film was Wes Craven and also this director has directed all the 'Scream' films which shows that he has a very good genre image.

Blood is a very big deal as this shows a lot in a horror film, blood represents death, pain and danger. This is also gory and sickening which adds tot the horror of the film and the shocking nature to is as well. This is a typical prop which is also in a horror films which emphasises death. Main characters always carry a knife such as the films, Halloween, Scream etc. However there are all different weapons which are used in a horror film such as claws, chainsaws, guns, etc.

Some famous actors which are in different horror films Jack Nicholson (The ShininG) , Jamie Lee Cutis(Halloween), Cillian Murphy(28 days later).
Also some famous directors in different horror films are James Wong, Wes Craven

Typical Music for a horror film.

This is a very stereotypical 80,s music for a horror film. This shows children from age 4 and above singing a song which explains the film Nightmare in elm street. In the background of the music, here is shown to be a breathing in the background that represents the killer maybe breathing. There is also a sound effect which sounds like a door locking in the background which can represent a women being trapped.
